To the place I belong…

The second day in WV, we decided to go fishing…a first for Amy, the kids and myself.  Looks like it was up to Matt and Joey to teach us…

…the kids were so excited!

The day was quite overcast, but all the better for catching fish.

Andrew caught the first fish…it was so cool.  I think all of our screams of excitement could have scared away all the fish in the lake.  But…

then Michael dipped his hook in and ANOTHER ONE!

He was not as thrilled as the others that he got a fish.

The two older kids were a little discouraged but with a little patience, their fish came!!

Ryan was very happy!

Madeline did a great job, but was not thrilled to see or touch it! Oh silly girls!

Ryan and I were very intent on finding out what kind of fish we caught…

…consensus:  blue gills.

Lily told Daddy, “no more fishing, its time for nap!”

IMG_0375

But not us, we were having a blast…

When we were in the middle of fishing, a huge storm came in and abruptly ended the festivities so we continued on to the cabin…

Ryan discovered “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and finished it in a day.

The little ones and the night shift disorder (ha ha) mommy were ready for a nap, while the kids and the big boys played a heated game of Monopoly.

Notice the addition to Matt’s funny face gallery.

Then it happened, the storm hit a transformer, and the electricity went out.  No big deal, right?  Well, normally, yes, but this was our scheduled night to cook for all the cabins and we had lots of food cooking that was now going bad.  Oh well, as Amy always says: life happens when you plan!  Plus I loved the fact that the kids were forced to turn off the TV whether they liked it or not and play…outside!

IMG_0418

And they found a fabulous mud pit to do that in…

After the massive mud bath, we cleaned the kids up and walked to Lois’s cabin for dinner…complements of Kroger rotisserie chickens, in the dark.

Speaking of country roads…

IMG_0423

Lily loves walks…especially when she is held the entire time.

Pretty wildflower on the way…

The activity of the night was building a bird house that suction cups to the window and has an open back so you can see the birds.  Ryan and cousin Susan finished first with a complete and correct house.

As we were waiting for the food, we sat and cut up with the young people ( do I sound old or what?)  Haha!

IMG_0461

Oh the love birds..

IMG_0466

As the night went on, there was still no electricity, so we had something  better…dinner by flashlight held by my handsome man and brother in law.  they were so gracious and probably sore after holding those lights so everyone could serve their food and eat!  What selfless men we have.

IMG_0477

My camera flash worked very well, this picture was actually taken in the pitch black!

IMG_0478

The glow sticks served more of a purpose than they were intended…

IMG_0481IMG_0482

Surprisingly, Lily was happy in the dark.

IMG_0484

This is one of my favorites!  These two ladies wanted that dessert, didn’t you Lois and Aunt Jane?

IMG_0485

Nothing stands between a woman and her dessert ha ha!

So it was a wild,  wonderful second day in WV and we accomplished many of our goals in exposing the boys to things they hadn’t ever been exposed to before!  Coming from a land of buried electrical and cable wires, going back to the older way of life was enlightening for these children.  They had never experienced a true power outage and all went to bed early with no light!  I guess that’s how it used to be, thank you Lord for electricity and the intuitiveness of buried wires!

As much “fun” as it was, I did say a little selfish prayer that the lights would come back on soon…
